Pacific Rim Whale Festival, Tofino, BC March 19 & 20, 2011

This past weekend I volunteered for The Land Conservancy of BC (http://www.conservancy.bc.ca/) at the Pacific Rim Whale Festival (http://www.pacificrimwhalefestival.com/ ) in Tofino, BC. The PRWF is a week of activities centered around environmental education for kids and adults, and coincides with the return of grey whales on their migration from the tropics.

TLC's Monks Point guesthouse.

View from the Monks Point property.

The TLC crew stayed at Monk's Pt. Cabin, a property with a guesthouse that was bequethed to TLC by a long time Tofino resident on his passing last year. Due to a zoning change, the guesthouse isn't available to rent to the public, but TLC is trying to get Tofino Council to allow that to happen. It's a wonderful property with great views and quite private so when it does become available for rentals I would definitely consider staying there.

The TLC Van and the Superheroes for Salmon in the parade.

On Saturday morning we participated in a parade in Tofino, unfortunately we had typical Tofino weather and our decorated TLC van, Jill and Carmen were soaked (I was driving so I was dry). We got to meet "Superheroes for Salmon", part of Alexandra Morton's salmon advocacy group. They will be holding a rally in Victoria May 1st and continuing throughout BC.

After lunch, we drove to Ucluelet and visited the Ucluelet Aquarium. The UA is building a new facility starting soon that looks like it will be awesome when finished. The weather improved in the afternoon so we checked out Long Beach and Cox Bay in the sunshine.

It was great to see the community show it's spirit and support environmental education, the website for the Whale Festival is http://www.pacificrimwhalefestival.com/ and it continues until March 27th, so if you can make it up there check it out!
